Highway bandits strike again Businessman beaten unconscious, son terrorised
Gunmen who have been attacking vehicles on the Soesdyke/Linden highway struck again on Monday, beating a businessman unconscious and terrorising his 13-year-old son. Police said that the two heavily-armed men attacked Azad Kadar, 42, and his 13-year-old son, Salim, at around 16:30 hrs as they were travelling in their truck on the Rockstone road. According to reports, Kadar, who lives at Craig, East Bank Demerara, sustained head injuries and had to be admitted to the Mackenzie Hospital . The gunmen also punched and terrorised his son. Kadar had a mere $2,000 in his possession when the attack occurred. Kaieteur News understands that Kadar has a store at Mabura and was returning to the city when he was attacked. Police said that the businessman and son were in the vicinity of Rockstone when two men, who had a submachine gun and a shotgun, suddenly blocked their path and forced them to stop.
Two men had a submachine gun and a shotgun After ordering Kadar and his son to disembark and lie facedown on the roadway, the gunmen demanded that they hand over their money. When the businessman said he had none, the men struck him in the head until he lost consciousness. The gunmen also struck Kadar's son when he too said that they had no money. Police have received reports that the driver of another truck saw the gunmen attacking Kadar and his son, but was ordered to drive on.
The gunmen eventually found the $2,000 that Kadar had in his possession and fled into the bushes. Police, who were eventually informed about the robbery, took the injured businessman and his son to the Mackenzie Hospital where Kadar was admitted. His condition is listed as stable. From the description of the gunmen, police believe that they are part of a gang that has carried out two similar attacks on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway . Last week Monday, four armed and masked gunmen attacked a car carrying two timber company employees on the Soesdyke/Linden highway. The victims were relieved of $150,000 and a cellular phone.
On Thursday, two gunmen armed with sub-machine guns attacked and robbed a beverage truck crew that was traveling on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway . The gunmen had earlier attacked a bakery truck crew, but they managed to escape.
