An armed bandit proved no match for his
intended victim who disarmed him of his firearm during an
attempted robbery in Agricola Tuesday night.
The intended victim Robert Smith was however forced to
flee with the weapon after the bandit's two colleagues
fired several shots at him while attempting to assist
their accomplice.
Two minutes later, the bandits attacked Agricola
resident Rickey Gobin and took away his Honda CG
motorcycle and other valuables when he tried to assist
Smith.
According to a police statement, Smith was on Brutus
Street , Agricola, when he was confronted by a man who was
armed with a gun around 22:30hrs.
The man demanded Smith's valuables but the intended
robbery victim refused.
A scuffle ensued during which the suspect was disarmed.
Two of the bandit's accomplices who were nearby fired
several shots at Smith as he fled.
Unsolved crime
He subsequently lodged with the police a 9mm Ruger CZ
pistol with three live rounds of matching ammunition.
Meanwhile, this newspaper understands that Rickey Gobin
who was on his way home and who reportedly knew the
perpetrators, tried to intervene.
He was held at gunpoint by the three men and robbed of
his motorcycle CD 3410, two gold chains, four gold rings,
G$17,000 and US$80.
Gobin was reportedly assaulted and ordered by the
bandits to go home.
After receiving reports on both incidents, a police
mobile patrol unit went into the Agricola area where they
reportedly arrested a suspect.
