Sixteen-year-old Shontel Li-A-Ping was yesterday treated at the Georgetown Pubic Hospital for cuts about her hands after she was reportedly attacked by a knife-wielding bandit at the City Mall.
Reports are that the teen was attacked while in the Game City Arcade, which is
located on the top floor of the City Mall in Regent Street.
Kaieteur News was told that, at around 9:30 hours, Li-A-Ping was in the store
alone when a man walked up to her and demanded that she hand over all her
valuables. Reports are that Li-A-Ping was relieved of some $19,000 in cash.
This newspaper understands that, after the man relieved his victim of the cash, he locked her in the store and made good his escape down the steps and out of the building.
When contacted for a comment on the incident, an official from the City Mall
confirmed that the store clerk is employed at Game City Arcade. However, a
relative of the injured clerk said she was a customer at the City Mall.
The official said that, while it is still not clear as to what really
transpired, they noticed the woman in the corridor screaming and indicating
that she was cut by broken glass.
He added that checks revealed that nothing was missing from the store, and no
one was seen running out of the mall.
Investigations are ongoing, as the matter has since been reported to the
police.
